Main Pick 3 Graphic May

Welcome to May's Pick 3 Party hosted by Marissa from the Inspired Owl's Corner, Lisa from PAWSitively Teaching, and  Ashley from Just Reed! It's hard to believe it's May already, the weather is getting warmer and the end of another school year is near!  I found some cool pins that may be  inspiring for two big occasions in May--Mother's Day and Memorial Day.

Mother's Day

When I saw this pin I thought, "Here's a great Mother's Day card any mother would like!"  I think all mothers like to read what their children have to say about them. I like the fact that it is somewhat of a brainstorming activity for kids to focus on many of mom's attributes. The teacher-author who created this used similes "Mom is as ____ ." The kids will love this "informal" writing activity too.

Tea Party Placemat

This pin is especially near and dear to my heart this month as I just finished a blog post about hosting a tea in your classroom for Mother's Day--although it does not have to be held this week. It could also be a year-end celebration. In the post I highlighted a few ideas to make your tea a "fancy" tribute for mom. This pin shows a simple way to make no-cost placemats that are adorable. Using different colors could give them a more formal feel. If you are interested in hosting a tea in your classroom, check out my blog post.  Be sure to tell me what you think. Here's the link.

Here's a cool pin for Memorial Day! It's so important to teach our kids about the men and women who have fought and died for our freedoms. This website offers a few different free posters you can use for Memorial Day and other patriotic holidays.

Welcome to January's Pick 3 Party hosted by Inspired Owl's Corner and PAWSitively Teaching and Just Reed! The holidays are over and we're all getting back to reality this week. I found some great pins for January to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and a cute New Year's craft for your first week back. I hope these ideas help you to survive your first weeks back at school.

Slide2

MLK poster

This is a great poster kids could make to concentrate on a few main ideas about Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and accomplishments. After selecting a few highlights it would be fun to find pictures and create a poster.

Slide3

MLK foldable

Another idea to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday is this foldable. It is a popular pin and a foldable kids could have fun making.

Slide4

New Year Girl

Happy New Year 2016!!

It's a good time to spend a few minutes thinking about what we can do to improve ourselves. This pin shows a primary child's writing, but this activity could be adapted to include higher level writing skills, such as writing a paragraph or including descriptive words.  Kids would enjoy the art work and adding a New Year's horn for fun!

Check out my Pinterest feed for more great winter ideas. I have a great board for Martin Luther King Jr. and another one for Black History month. Feel free to peruse those boards to find some great ideas. Welcome to December's Pick 3 Party hosted by Inspired Owl's Corner and PAWSitively Teaching and Just Reed! Holiday season is officially here and excitement is in the air. Certainly every teacher knows that! For this month's linky I found some great pins highlighting festive ideas to help you and your kids survive December! Enjoy!

Slide2

chocolate marshmallow

Candy Cane Hot Chocolate Stir Stick

Don't these just look delicious? I saw this and wanted a hot chocolate--right away. This would be easy for the kids to make for a holiday party or to watch a movie and a very special treat they won't forget.

Slide3

Grinch pin

This is a great activity to work on some fancy vocabulary words. Even the older kids would like to contribute adjectives to this poster. The infamous grinch is quite a character and a great example of what not to be. LOL Could also extend the brainstorming to include similies and metaphors, "The grinch was as grumpy as . . . "  Make a grinch book. Have every kid pick a word and finish that sentence using their word. Then kids illustrate their writing.  Bind the pages into a class book. This is an easy holiday creation and a great way to practice new vocabulary words. The kids will love reading and re-reading the book they authored! Great holiday fun!

Props for Christmas pics

Posing with props for pictures has become a very popular activity at parties and events. It would be so much fun to make these with the kids and then take their pictures in front of a classroom holiday display.  The kids can really ham it up as they pose with friends making creative, funny poses. These photos would make a great addition on the December page of a year-end journal chronicling the times in your class. This is a great activity for your holiday party--or just a short break from work time.

Welcome to November's Pick 3 Party hosted by Inspired Owl's Corner and PAWSitively Teaching! Halloween is over and the leaves are falling down. It's cool November already and time for another Pinterest Pick 3 Linky!  This month I am sharing some fun Thanksgiving Pinterest pins. Enjoy!

Pilgrim Portraits

Click on the image to see original post.

I love this idea! Make a board with boy and girl Pilgrim heads and have kids stand behind with their faces smiling through. Then photograph. Great fun for all the little Pilgrims in your class. Your classroom will look great with all those beautiful faces decorating your classroom and the parents will love them on the refrigerator too.

Thankful Box

This is a great idea for kids to think about all the good things in their lives and why they are grateful.  It is also an opportunity for kids to learn what is important to others. It's a great craft for kids to take home and share with their families on Thanksgiving day. They will have fun as they get family members to share what they love and hold dear. Be thankful!

Mmmm! Looks yummy. Very appetizing. I think I'll make this with my granddaughter for Thanksgiving day. She loves cooking and especially loves foods with a great "presentation." Whenever she makes something with her mom or her other grandma or me, she copies the ingredients and steps into her self-made cook book.

October Pick 3 Main Graphic

Welcome to October's Pick 3 Party hosted by Inspired Owl's Corner and PAWSitively Teaching! The last few days have been rainy and very humid. The leaves are beginning to turn and we're expecting tropical storms all weekend. It's good weather for the Pinterest Pick 3 Linky! This month I am sharing some fun seasonal Pinterest pins. Enjoy!

October Pick 3 Number 1

Pumpkin TossGame

This pumpkin-toss game could be fun in the classroom or on the play ground.  For use in the classroom:  I think I would have kids pick a math fact card and if they answered it correctly they could earn a toss at the pumpkins. A successful toss would earn a point. What team would have the most points?

October Pick 3 Number 2

My Pretties

I love this cute classroom door decoration. Just the right amount of a spooky feel to it.

October Pick 3 Number 3

Halloween Treat

Mmmm. What a great party treat! Ingredients: crumbled Oreos, orange sprinkles and vanilla pudding or ice cream. Would work well with plastic see-through cups. Best of all the kids could help make these. Click on the picture above to see the original post. The parfaits are topped with cute witch hats. A perfectly bewitching treat! The kids will love it!!

July Pinterest Slide

Welcome to July's Pick 3 Party hosted by Inspired Owl's Corner and PAWSitively Teaching!  Thanks for joining us!  If you are looking for some inspiration for great activities to celebrate summer or start the school year, you have come to the right place!  Here are a few ideas that I have found on Pinterest that are great ideas for summer whether in school or not.

July Slide1

Great idea for the either the beginning of the school year or the end of the year or any other time.  Kids love seeing their pictures on bulletin boards and they serve as a motivating writing prompt. It would also be a great addition to a year end memory book.  Creative teachers can design other colorful backgrounds. For instance, use the topic of a unit of study, such as the rainforest, to create a background with rainforest animals--perhaps with each student holding a stuffed macaw.  Another example, after a unit on the planets, have the solar system in the background with each student holding an astronaut's helmet.  Teachers write a title for each background. You get the idea! Kids retain more information when they become active participants in the lessons. Your reluctant learners can enjoy this one too!

What fun to create your own gift wrap.  Another creative use: Decorate a long sheet of paper with the watermelon design and use it as a tablecloth or runner on you summer party table. Great to use for summer birthdays or other summer parties.  Fun to make and festive too!

A visual feast!  I love to make festive food items for party tables. This watermelon boat with a pirate motif is a perfect treat for the kids as well as the adults. It is sure to be a hit at your summer bash.

Welcome to June's Pick 3 Party hosted by Inspired Owl's Corner and PAWSitively Teaching!  Thanks for joining us!  If you are looking for some inspiration for great activities as the school year winds down, you have come to the right place!  Here are a few ideas that I have found on Pinterest that are great ideas for summer whether in school or not.

Great fun to create large tissue paper flowers. They can be used as decorations for a party, gifts or to complement a unit. Flowers can be attached to dowels or hung from the ceiling. They are very pretty and simple to make. Kids can enjoy following the pictorial directions to learn how to fold the tissue paper, trim the ends and fluff the papers to make pretty petals.

Such a great idea! Brainstorm summer fun ideas with kids and use those ideas to create a colorful Summer Bucket List Chart. Writing a list gives kids something to look forward to and a sense of accomplishment as they cross off completed items from their list. Everyone accomplishes more when they have a plan and this chart highlights summer plans as well as being a piece of art for the classroom and later their refrigerator. When there is "nothing to do," it's time to read the summer bucket list and be inspired.

June Beach Ball

Great activity to end the year. Have each kid bring in a beach ball from the dollar store. Then give kids time to collect autographs from classmates. A wonderful opportunity to be social and lots of fun too!
